"Inspired by the sense of wonder and the innocence of children."

I found myself wanting to capture the essence and individuality of children with large portrait-like paintings utilising very free and fluid methods. This fascination and intrigue with the intrinsic beauty of a child’s face was also sparked when I began exploring adolescence and young adults and the similarities they seemed to portray as they began their journey into adulthood.

I was wanting to capturing their unique characteristics, such as a pensive moment, or a thoughtful look, with sensitivity, which I felt I was able to do by applying multiple layers of transparent paint, gradually building them up to acheive an artistic likeness, whereby a moment in time can be cherished.

Watercolour Paints

I only use professional grade watercolour paints recognised for their quality and performance that use the purest pigments.

With my works on canvas I begin with a watercolour ground & the same technique as on the aquarelle paper, but then progress and use multiple mediums to achive the required outcome.

Arches 640gsm Aquarelle Paper

Traditionally made, this professional quality, acid free, 100% cotton paper supports my painting technique, where absorption, bleeding, and staining is desired, but still allowing drips and runs to travel its surface.

Framing

The quality timber frame with clean simply lines and deep profile gives a real presence to the finished piece when hung. Archival quality mat board with a slight textural component complements the Arches Aquarelle Paper and contrasts nicely with the Scandanavian style frame. By 'floating' the artwork within the frame the beautiful deckle edge paper is enhanced, yet unspoilt, offer the the viewer a meaningful connection.
